Floating Substation Installed at French Pilot Project Site
The Floating Electrical Hub (FEH) will establish a connection with the trio of floating wind turbines on one end and the export cable on the opposite end, facilitating the transmission of electricity generated by the 30 MW floating wind farm to the power grid.
Under an EPCI contract inked in 2022, the company has been actively engaged in the EolMed project. The scope of this contract encompasses the floating electrical hub, inter-array cables, as well as the anchoring and mooring systems essential for the efficient operation of the floating wind farm.
The preparation and delivery of the Floating Electrical Hub (FEH) entailed over a year of meticulous planning and involved Bourbon’s engineering, project management, and offshore teams. This collaborative effort encompassed the design, manufacturing, towing, and installation of the hub and its subsea mooring system, as highlighted by the company.
Based on information available online, the construction of the FEH was executed by Multimarine Services, a Cyprus-based company.
Bourbon efficiently towed and installed the floating substation within a span of two months. The task was accomplished utilising their Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS) named Bourbon Liberty 222, which was equipped with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

EolMed stands as one of the various floating wind ventures that the French company has actively participated in.
The EolMed pilot project, spearheaded by Qair, TotalEnergies, and BW Ideol, is set to feature three Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines mounted on BW Ideol’s innovative Damping Pool floating foundations. Situated 15 kilometers off Gruissan, the project will be positioned in water depths of approximately 60 meters.
Initiated in Spring 2023 at Port-La Nouvelle, the construction of the floating foundations commenced with the arrival of the initial steel blocks, forming the basis for the creation of the three substructures
