Asso.subsea Completes Fécamp Inter-Array Cable Work Offshore France.

As part of a contract with Prysmian Group, Italy-based Asso.subsea undertook a significant offshore project involving seabed preparation, installation, and protection operations. The challenging conditions, characterized by tough soils and specific burial requirements, prompted the company to innovate and create a new trenching vehicle, the AssoTrencher IV Mk13, designed to enhance backfilling capabilities.

This cutting-edge tool successfully conducted over 100 kilometers of backfilling, utilizing previously excavated material to offer a uniquely environmentally sustainable solution for seabed reinstatement. Asso.subsea employed a comprehensive approach, deploying four vessels, including the recently converted cable-laying vessel (CLV) Ariadne, along with trenching support vessels Athena and Argo, all equipped with the latest version of the AssoTrencher IV burial tools.

Asso.subsea successfully managed the loading, transportation, installation, protection, and backfilling of a total of 71 cables, covering over 118 kilometers of submarine cables. This accomplishment showcases their expertise and integrated capabilities, enabling the seamless execution of an exceedingly complex project.

The Fécamp offshore wind farm is set to feature 71 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines, with the initial unit having been installed in July of last year. Commencing its power generation in the same month, the 500 MW offshore wind farm marks a significant milestone.

Eolien Maritime France (EMF), a joint venture involving EDF Renouvelables, EIH S.à.rl (owned by Enbridge Inc. and CPP Investments), and Skyborn Renewables (formerly wpd offshore), collaboratively develops the project. Prysmian Group’s multifaceted involvement underscores its role not only in cable supply but also in ensuring the ongoing operational integrity of the vital export cables connecting these offshore wind farms to the mainland.
