Title Senior Specialist Hydrogeologist
Salary Comp
Description
There has never been a better time to join our Groundwater Unit, which provides specialist hydrogeological support across a wide spectrum of SEPA's regulatory activities. From River Basin Planning to land contamination, abstraction regulation to nuclear decommissioning, we have a major impact on SEPA's important work.

The Unit also provides support to Scottish Government implementing the Nitrates Directive, and has primary responsibility for the Water Framework Directive classification of groundwater bodies and the maintenance and expansion of Scotland's strategic groundwater monitoring networks. As many of these responsibilities are new, the Unit is also developing a new structure, with the potential for exciting, long-term career development.

Your skills and practical experience will be put to excellent use in this specialist role. Enjoying lead responsibility for the Unit on a specific groundwater pressure, you'll establish national frameworks and procedures, coordinate the development of a national evidence base for related groundwater impacts, and ensure teams are fully trained to deliver an outstanding service.

Your other major focus will be on carrying out assessments to support the regulation of sites from the full range of groundwater pressures, involving contaminated land. Leading teams and projects, and liaising with clients, you'll also represent us to the media and in public inquiries.
JobType Full-Time, Vacation
SkillsRequired
Together with a degree in Geology or a related earth science, you have proven technical experience of the assessment and negotiation of soil and groundwater solutions, including site investigation and groundwater modelling.

You'll need a demostrable knowledge of groundwater protection legislation, contaminant fate and transport processes, and good practice in the remediation of contaminated land or the application of hydrogeological information to the operation of waste disposal sites. You must also have excellent communication skills. Since you will travel throughout Scotland, a driving licence would be a definite advantage.
