We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic mental health nurse to work as a Joint Crisis Plan Facilitator for the Pendle House, Nelson site of a multi-site study funded by the Medical Research Council. The CRIMSON study is a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of Joint Crisis Plans (JCP) to Reduce Compulsory Treatment of People with Psychosis. The three centres for the RCT will be Birmingham/Leicester, London and Lancashire/Manchester. The duration of the post will be for 7 months.

The successful candidate will organise and provide an innovative clinical intervention that is being evaluated in this study. The intervention is the development of a Joint Crisis Plan (JCP) for patients with a diagnosis of a psychotic or bipolar illness, and a history of a recent admission. The JCP aims to empower the user by stating their views on what should happen in a crisis in the future. The JCP is completed after a meeting with the clinical team, which is facilitated so that the implications of treatment choices can be discussed and agreement reached where possible. Training in the provision of the intervention will be provided, with continuing supervision and assessment of fidelity to the model. This is an exciting opportunity for the candidate to receive training and experience in the only structured intervention that has so far been shown to reduce compulsory treatment. If this large RCT shows JCPs work and are cost effective, they are likely to be in demand and the results of this trial will have important implications for mental health policy and service planning for adults with severe mental illness.
