We’re looking for enthusiastic and pro-active Control & Instrumentation Engineers to join the team. A background in power plant engineering is considered to be a key attribute for the successful applicants. Initially based within the Major Engineering and Environment Project Team, at Ratcliffe Power Station, the successful candidate will contribute to the upgrade of environmental and engineering systems of this 2000 MW Power Station. The successful candidate will directly assist the E&CI Lead Engineer in delivering the C&I and LV electrical work package to the required safety and technical standards. In addition to being rewarding and exciting, the environmental and engineering project offers a wealth of opportunity for individual’s future development both within a project environment and within an operational business.
Key Activities
Working on a wide range of responsibilities, you will plan, manage and execute all works and activities safely, to deliver project objectives and milestones. Creating strong working relationships within both the project and station teams is an important element of the role, and you will need to work closely with the station and asset management teams to create an integrated 'One Team Approach'.
You’ll deal with tendering, contractor selection and contract management as well as having the ability to operate effectively and confidently within a multi-disciplined project team environment. You’ll also be responsible for planning and managing both enabling works and works as part of a major outage. On the administrative side, you will maintain project office systems, reporting lines, QA plans and project documents.

Qualified to degree level in engineering or an equivalent, with a NEBOSH diploma or certificate, you’ll have experience of power plant engineering including
- Control system, instrumentation and Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems QA and test procedures
- Control and instrumentation systems/LV electrical systems commissioning
- Detailed engineer level knowledge of Rockwell PLC systems including; configuration, hardware, application software, testing, fault finding and associated documentation
- Detailed knowledge of process instrumentation and plant data networks
- Detailed knowledge of DCS, SCADA applications and other HMI systems
- Detailed knowledge of LV electrical systems
- The ability to understand, design and adapt Process P&IDs and technical project documentation
You will also have experience of contract management, including a proven track record of safety management on site works. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work well within and across teams. Commercial awareness and budget management skills are important, as are the abilities to identify and analyse situations and key issues, and to prioritise them effectively. Crucially, you should also have the ability to challenge established practices and suggest imaginative solutions to problems. |
