Description
To contribute to the effective delivery of the station engineering and maintenance strategy to ensure the long term engineering health, integrity and performance of the asset, in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner, maximising the commercial benefit within legal requirements.



Key Activities



  1. Contribute, implement and manage relevant engineering strategies and records (as allocated) to ensure station complies with all external minimum standards.
  2. Provide technical advice/ decision making.
  3. Contribute to the delivery of the short term maintenance plan (including first line maintenance).
  4. Ensure effective up to date operational communication.
  5. Support the team in the effective delivery of business plan and KPI.
  6. Implement and manage financial/contract resources of the station effectively and efficiently.
  7. Support the effective delivery of station planned /unplanned outages.




Main responsibilities of role



  1. Specifically responsible for the control and instrumentation on the general plant and DCS Bailey Infi 90 Control System.
  2. Maintaining up to date version monitoring and control of the software used in the Bailey Infi 90 Control System.
  3. Interrogating the Bailey Infi 90 Control System, interpreting the status of the control system, fault finding and rectifying.
  4. Plan all maintenance activities on control instrumentation, principally on the balance of plant, as required to ensure compliance with Station policies and procedures.
  5. Review planned activities being undertaken on a daily basis, (including risk assessments, method statements etc).
  6. Budget Management within agreed parameters.
  7. Contract Specification, letting and on-going management. Ensuring the station operates safely and achieves value for money and effective utilisation of resource.
  8. Input relevant information from Engineering Maintenance activities into the station engineering strategies.
  9. Analyse and review the defects being raised and resolved within discipline to identify trends.
  10. Respond to un-planned plant failure, managing work within discipline to return plant to operation in a safe, cost effective and timely fashion.
  11. Manage and support the re-commissioning of plant on return to service from planned and un-planned outages.
  12. Respond as required to assist in first line maintenance as driven by station events.
  13. Ensure that relevant engineering records are up-to-date, accurate and comply with statutory requirements in own area.
SkillsRequired




  1. Qualified to HNC/HND level in related engineering discipline.
  2. High level of interpreting and understanding control systems.
  3. Experienced with Ladder Logic and sequence control, experience with analogical registers and MODBUS protocol to the SCADA control system would also be advantageous.
  4. Able to demonstrate suitable experience gained in relevant industrial environments/technologies, ideally Gas, Oil or Coal fired Power plants.
  5. Good working knowledge of power station operations.
  6. Experience of managing contractors in the workplace.
  7. Sound understanding of financial principles.
  8. Good project management and planning skills.
  9. Excellent communication skills.
  10. High level of awareness to Safety and Environmental legislation, NEBOSH or IOSH accreditation would be advantageous.
  11. Good IT Literacy, SAP exposure would be advantageous.
